Now, I dont know if the phrase “Go play with the traffic” is a Brit thing or perhaps even a Yorkshire (UK) thing, but as child (possibly the brat child you wouldn’t want) I remember my dear mother, RIP, saying it to me and at times my sisters.
Possibly being a creative, old head on young shoulders kind of thing, made me a difficult child to deal with…and now as a difficult adult of many decades, I don’t think I have changed that much, apart maybe from my continued passion for gathering information and underpinning the need for the individuals voice.
Back then, yes five or six decades ago, cars probably had a lower brake horse power and maybe you could “go play” with it…but I am sure you get the sentiment?
Throughout my life, even from the early days, the concept of computing was there. Having recounted this previously, my mother worked in administration for the University of Hull and one day came home with a magical piece of paper…binary tape…something the early computers worked with.
This was a pivotal moment in my life. Having lived in several different UK locations and Europe due to my father’s military career, I saw another world—a world of computers.
I was there, at the forefront of computer tech being accessible to the average person. When Sinclair brought us the ZX81, I picked it up and worked with it. I heard the screeching tone of a computer dialling the “internet” with my Commodore 64, and ran with it. I sensed this was the way forward for this world…and it is…BUT…
Where we are now with tech does transcend where we were back then, but people have to understand you have to, to some extent, work with it. It’s a tool, and love or hate it, psychologically, it’s HERE. What you do with it is your choice.
Artificial intelligence was always the theme of progressive books (yes, I read em) and Sci-Fi programs, but now, it’s here.
I have told you, I was a “difficult” child and now seen as a bit of an oddball “mature” adult, but I feel this is just me being a human.
The tools, e.g. yer ChatGPT and Gemini, etc, are tools…use them as that BUT do NOT use them as a lazy copy and paste means to fill your story, your sales page or your social media post…YOU are a human, a human with life experience, a human that has felt the ups and downs of the reality of life… AI?…well, it HAS NOT…it works on text patterns, on common denominators of written works, it can NOT be YOU!
No matter what you do online, whether it be doom scrolling on social media, writing your life story or promoting the best product or service in the world…BE HUMAN!
Use AI as your search and research tool, it’s pretty good at that, but always fact check, but use YOUR experience and understanding of what it is to be a human being communicating with another human being.
