But Still Attracts The Best Conversion Rates!
Something older than the internet and still attracting the best conversions and with an almost FREE overhead!
The earliest email concept came to life in 1965 when MIT wanted to leave messages on the engineer’s shared computer terminals. From here Ray Tomlinson (ARPANET — the research project that eventually kicked off the internet) created a system that could send electronic messages between computers that were connected.
The Internet, though its origins stem from around the same time, officially was born on 1st January 1983, the point where a standard means of communication between computers.
Now, some interesting figures on the effectiveness of email marketing against general paid advertising:
Paid Advertising, for every $1 spent the ROI is approximately $2.30
Not too shabby eh? , double your money?
Email Marketing? For every $1 spent the ROI is approximately $36.00!
Interesting?
And the saying goes: “The Money Is In The List”, but oh so many:
a) don’t go out to create a list.
b) very few know how to effectively market to them.
I agree, it isn’t an easy task setting out to gather leads and a common method is to offer free lead magnets in exchange for an email. This works but you have to ensure you craft a lead magnet that offers to solve a pain your prospective audience wants.
More recently I have seen a very effective lead-gathering system, by offering a short 5 to 7-day mini-email course. These mini-email courses are free and go a long way to creating a foundational solution for the niche-relevant/ideal customer.
There is just enough “meat on the bone” to ensure the subscriber feels they have been given something of value, but also this course becomes the launch pad for the paid upgrade that solves the readers’ problem or pain point.
That said, I am part of the “newsletter clan”, I ghostwrite several for clients and if you hadn’t noticed, this is completely on trend right now. It’s email marketing to people who have happily signed up expecting your regular newsletter packed with niche-relevant info…your readers are already warm to what you are going to put in front of them.
There is of course a “however” to the newsletter and email marketing method, you need to AVOID SELLING…yup, A/B testing shows that you need to use the 80/20 method i.e. 80% of the newsletters are purely useful and valuable information and only 20% focuses on selling to the reader.
With email and newsletter marketing you pretty much already have a warm list but you need to nurture that list. You have to show your humanity (not yer AI lol)…Know, Like and Trust is even more the name of the game today than it was a decade ago.
If you haven’t already started email or newsletter marketing, I strongly recommend you get about it…but avoid being sales all of the time.
