I just recently launched a FREE newsletter, “Unharnessed”, which you may find of interest and featured the following and much more:
“In this edition, I want to talk about something we all cherish but sometimes take for granted: freedom of speech. It’s that vital thread that weaves through the fabric of any society that values openness, truth, and progress.
But let’s be honest. These days, freedom of speech feels under siege in many parts of the world. More and more, governing powers seem determined to quiet voices they don’t agree with, whether by censorship, intimidation, or controlling narratives. And this isn’t just about politics; it’s about our very ability to think, question, and speak freely.
The Muting of Many Voices
We’ve all seen it, newsrooms pressured to toe a line, social media accounts shadow-banned or outright deleted, protesters silenced, whistleblowers persecuted, journalists harassed. Governments and corporations alike appear increasingly eager to decide what is “acceptable” speech and what crosses some invisible red line.
Sometimes, it feels like we’re living in glass houses where every word is monitored, judged, or weaponised. The chilling effect is very real: people who once would have spoken their truth now hesitate, worried about consequences or being labelled troublemakers.
But here’s the core: silencing voices doesn’t erase the questions or the truths behind them. It only drives conversation underground, creating fear instead of dialogue and confusion instead of clarity.
Why Speaking Out Is Our Right and Our Responsibility
Freedom of speech isn’t just a right enshrined in documents; it’s a foundation for all other freedoms. Without it, democracy becomes an empty shell, innovation dries up, and compassion dwindles because we lose the ability to truly empathise with differing experiences.
Like-minded people, individuals who care deeply about truth and justice, we cannot afford to stay silent. Our right to speak out:
- Keeps power in check. Speaking truth to power challenges abuses and corruption.
- Fuels change. Every great social movement began with brave voices demanding to be heard.
- Builds understanding. Sharing perspectives breaks down walls of ignorance and fear.
- Protects future generations. Preserving this freedom ensures those who come after us have space to grow, learn, and create.
How Can We Keep Our Voices Alive?
It’s tempting to feel overwhelmed. The obstacles can seem massive. But small acts of courage multiply. Here are some ways we can protect and exert our right to speak out:
- Use every platform available: Blogs, newsletters, social media, podcasts, art, and conversation. Each word counts.
- Support independent media and journalists who refuse to be gatekeepers of truth.
- Engage respectfully but firmly with opposing views. Open dialogue is our bulwark against division.
- Protect privacy online: Use encrypted tools, be mindful of surveillance, and share wisely.
- Build communities of support: There’s strength in numbers, especially among those who value free expression.
- Stay informed: Knowledge shields us from manipulation and empowers our voices.

A Call to Courage and Connection
This isn’t just about noise or volume. It’s about truth, authenticity, and the human spirit refusing to be crushed.
We all have something unique to share, and our stories matter. If you feel silenced, disheartened, or afraid, know that you’re not alone and that the act of speaking out, no matter how small, lights a spark that can grow.
So, here’s to being unharnessed: to breaking free from fear, to speaking boldly even when it’s hard, and to creating spaces where many voices come together to build something better.”
